Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that there will be no discussions regarding a new contract for Fernandinho until the end of the current season. The 34 year old has been utilised as a defender throughout the last few months as a result of injuries sustained to City’s usual centre backs, and with his current deal being set to expire in June 2020, many fans are questioning whether or not it’s time to start thinking about his future.
While he may not be the stand out star of this squad he certainly seems like a useful player to have around, if only due to the sort of cover that he can quite clearly provide in an array of positions. Fernandinho is moving into the latter stages of his career, though, which could be the reason why the club isn’t sold on the idea of discussing his future at this moment in time.
