Keita open to Germany return as Liverpool exit looms

Naby Keita is now on the verge of leaving Liverpool as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season, with an extension looking less likely by the day, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Keita joined Liverpool in 2018 from RB Lepizig for a reported fee of €60 million. He was seen as a great boost for the Merseysiders midfield section after their hearts were broken by the Champions League final defeat that year, but he never quite lived up to the expectations, with injuries severely plaguing his time at Anfield.

The 27-year-old has been starting matches recently and has even been one of the better performers in a mostly underwhelming team, but with a great rebuilding job reportedly planned for the summer, it seems there will be n…

The report has claimed that Newcastle are looking to bring in a new left-back this summer and that one of the players on their radar is Cucurella. The Magpies want a loan deal, but the Blues would prefer a permanent sale.

Cucurella has been on the books of Chelsea since the summer of 2022 when he joined from Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion. The 25-year-old did well for the Seagulls during the 2021-22 campaign, but he did not have the best of times at Chelsea last campaign.

The left-back made 21 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea last season, providing two assists in those games.…

England to tackle Republic of Ireland in Nations League group stage

England and the Republic of Ireland will meet competitively for the first time since 1991 in the next edition of the Nations League.

The English and the Republic are also up against Euro 2004 winners Greece and Finland in Group B2. They avoided a long trip to Kazakhstan under UEFA’s excessive travel restriction rules, with the former Soviet republic placed in Group B3 instead.

The last competitive encounter between England and the Republic was a Euro 92 qualifier at Wembley, where a Niall Quinn goal cancelled out Lee Dixon’s opener. A friendly match in 1995 at Lansdowne Road had to be abandoned due to crowd trouble, and the teams’ most recent meeting was a November 2020 friendly.

Liverpool 4-3 Leeds United: Champions survive huge scare from Bielsa´s impressive upstarts

Hat-trick hero Mohamed Salah saved the day for Liverpool after promoted Leeds gave the champions a huge scare in a 4-3 thriller on the opening day of the Premier League season.

The Reds striker struck a decisive 88th-minute penalty, his second spot-kick of the game at Anfield, to ensure last season s all-conquering side started the new campaign on a positive note.

In a battle between last season s Premier League and Championship winners, Salah s first two goals and one from Virgil van Dijk were countered by Leeds replies from Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford and Mateusz Klich.

A sub-plot to this Merseyside showdown was the tactical battle between managers Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa, and the latter looked like coming away with a point until Rodrigo fouled …

Silverware crucial as Alexander-Arnold ponders Liverpool future

Trent Alexander-Arnold says winning trophies is his key consideration as talks continue over a possible extension to his Liverpool contract.

Alexander-Arnold is into the final year of his contract at Anfield, meaning he could sign a pre-contract agreement with a team abroad as early as January, and as it stands is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Spanish and European champions Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in the right-back.

Yet the 25-year-old, who moved onto 100 goal contributions in his Liverpool career when he teed up Luis Diaz in Saturday s 3-0 win over Bournemouth, insisted he has not made a decision on his future.

However, the lure of winning silverware on a consistent basis is what will drive his decision.

Lewandowski rules out Barcelona exit

Robert Lewandowski has made it perfectly clear he has no intention of leaving Barcelona this summer.

Back in December, in the buildup to the winter transfer window, the 35-year-old striker was tipped to leave the Catalan club in the near future, with reports claiming his entourage had been approached by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) with a view of a potential move which would see him follow former Real Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to Saudi Arabia.

Lewandowski, La Liga s top goalscorer from last season, didn t get off to the best of starts this time around, which no doubt led to the stories about Barcelona eyeing potential replacements. However, his form has picked up since, and in all competitions in 2023/24, he now has 32 goal involvements (23 go…

Tuchel on Werner and Havertz: Chelsea will not lose faith and trust

Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea retain faith and trust in struggling forwards Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Both players were substituted with 25 minutes left in the 2-0 Champions League win over Porto in Seville on Wednesday.

Tuchel said after the quarter-final first leg that the two players had not given him what he was looking for.

But ahead of the short trip to play Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, he insisted both players remain a key part of his plans and that his substitutions were specific only to that match.

Tuchel accepts Werner is lacking in confidence but does not have any concerns over Havertz.

Werner has been directly involved in more Premier League goals this season than any other Chelsea player (11, with five goals and …
